IN-HOME LESSONS IN CHEVY CHASE

Premium Guitar Instruction, Brought to Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase is where I grew up as a child. The streets between the Maryland line and Connecticut Avenue — the neighborhood's parks, its quiet residential blocks, the particular character of a community that sits at the edge of the capital without quite belonging to it — are as familiar to me as any place I have lived. Offering in-home guitar instruction here is not an expansion into new territory. It is, in some sense, a return.

The families of Chevy Chase have always maintained a serious relationship with the arts. The proximity to Strathmore, where I was an Artist-in-Residence — tends to produce households where music is not an extracurricular but a genuine priority. Georgetown Guitar Academy's in-home program is designed for exactly that kind of family.

Lessons are conducted in your home, on your schedule, with no commute and no compromise in instructional quality. Every session follows the same conservatory-benchmarked curriculum as instruction at the Academy's Georgetown studio — structured around the seven-principle method that has guided students from first lessons to conservatory auditions and, in several cases, to professional careers in music.

The standard behind the instruction

Georgetown Guitar Academy was founded by Piotr Pakhomkin, a graduate of the Peabody Institute who studied under Manuel Barrueco and has performed as a concert soloist at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. He is a Naxos recording artist whose work has been reviewed in Fanfare and the Financial Times. His student Grace Elmer, who studied at the Academy through 2017, holds a full faculty appointment at the University of South Carolina — one of several Academy graduates now working as professional musicians and university faculty.

The Academy is fifteen years old, holds a five-star rating across all platforms, and has placed students at conservatories and university music programs from Peabody to Trinity Laban in London.
